Lead the SK Way: Two South Kitsap School Board Seats Up for Election in November
Filing period is May 5-9 for Director Districts 3 and 4.
Five citizens serve on the South Kitsap School District Board of Directors, each representing one of the five director districts that make up the school district. This fall, two of the five seats are up for election. Candidates must file for office between May 5–9, 2025, at the Kitsap County Auditor’s Office Elections Division, 619 Division St. in Port Orchard. The election will be held November 4, 2025.
To be legally eligible, a candidate must be a registered voter and a resident of the director district for which they file. All seats are four-year terms. Maps of the director districts are available online at www.skschools.org/schoolboard.
The two seats up for election are:
- Director District 3 – Olalla, Mullenix, Long Lake, Bethel, Fragaria
(currently represented by Brian Pickard) - Director District 4 – Lund, Bethel, Parkwood, Annapolis, Waterman
(currently represented by Andy Brandon)
Serving on the South Kitsap School Board is a vital leadership role and an opportunity to live out The SK Way—a shared commitment to integrity, accountability, and service to every student. School board members work in partnership with district administrators to guide the overall direction of South Kitsap schools.
The Washington State School Directors’ Association identifies four key responsibilities of school boards:
- Vision – Focus the work of the district and community on student achievement through comprehensive strategic planning.
- Structure – Provide prudent financial oversight and thoughtful policymaking.
- Accountability – Ensure clear goals, progress monitoring, and regular reporting to the public.
- Advocacy – Champion public education locally and at the state and federal levels.
The South Kitsap Board of Directors meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Meetings include financial reports, updates on academics and district initiatives, strategic plan progress, policy monitoring, staff and student recognition, and time for public comment.
