Kindergarten Readiness Tips

• I can name letters

All children entering Kindergarten must be five years old on or before August 31st.

Register your child at your local school or online. Before the start of school, you will need to present proof of age, preferably a birth certificate.

Provide proof of residency (utility bill, lease/rental agreement) along with the completed enrollment packet.

Washington State requires that children entering kindergarten have all required immunizations. See your pediatrician for a list.

Make transportation plans clear to your child, teacher, and school office.

Bus routes are developed two weeks before the start of school. This allows us to provide all parents in the district with their designated bus stops so they can make arrangements for getting their children safely to and from school.

Students registering after bus stops are assigned may use the stop nearest their home as long as there is a Responsible Adult meeting the student at that stop. To request a stop not listed for the neighborhood school, complete a Bus Stop Request online.  There is no guarantee a new stop will be approved and can take up to 10 business days for the new stop to be considered. 

A responsible adult (RA) must be at the bus stop to pick up your child. The RA must be listed on the student’s information packet that goes to the Transportation Department. A parent can designate, in writing, an older sibling or family member as the Responsible Adult.

If your child’s transportation plans change, call or send a note with route number and bus stop location to the school office first thing in the morning so a bus pass can be issued.

• We want and need your child to consistently be at school because lessons build upon each other from day to day.

• Please call the school’s office within 5 days to excuse an absence.

• Get plenty of sleep (ten to twelve hours are recommended for children this age).

• Eat a healthy diet, including breakfast.

• Get up in plenty of time to get ready for school.
