On December 8, the South Kitsap School District closed the SK Community Pool due to concerns with water clarity, quality, and mechanical issues.

Testing of the pool water was conducted in cooperation with Kitsap Public Health District.
On December 9, South Kitsap School District received a letter of notification outlining safety issues that must be addressed before the pool could resume operation.

District staff and contractors worked over the past several weeks to thoroughly clean and flush the pool. They also installed permanent supports to fix the adjustable wall in place. The adjustable floor remains operational and there is a plan in place to address lighting.

This morning, Kitsap Public Health District conducted follow up testing and authorized the pool to re-open for student and community use. Students at South Kitsap High School were able to re-enter the pool for PE classes today.

District staff will continue to work with Water Technology, Inc. to assess pool operational systems. Once the extent of repair and renovation costs are known, district administrators can establish a funding plan for long-range improvements.
