Mr. Tim Winter

The South Kitsap School District Board of Directors is pleased to announce they have selected Mr. Tim Winter as superintendent.

The finalists for superintendent of South Kitsap School District each spent a day in the district touring schools and meeting with staff, students, and community members. The School Board also interviewed the finalists a second time. Following the community forum for the last finalist, the Board met in executive session, reviewed feedback from audience members, and discussed the qualifications of each candidate. The board returned to the open public meeting and voted unanimously to select Mr. Tim Winter as the superintendent. Mr. Winter’s selection is subject to the finalization of a contract and a Washington State background check.

“I am impressed with the programs, academics, activities, and athletic opportunities for students in South Kitsap. My goal is for these programs to continue to thrive and support student achievement into the future. I believe there is exciting community growth on the horizon that will enhance the high level of success that already exists across the district,” stated Mr. Winter. “I have a vision that the South Kitsap School District will be one of the top five school districts in the state. There are already great programs and great people in a great place! My wife Kristen and I are thrilled with the opportunity to lay down long-term roots and become active members in the South Kitsap community.”

Mr. Winter has twenty-eight years in education. He has served as superintendent in the Clarkston School District since 2014. Prior to that, he served as principal and assistant principal at Peninsula High School in the Peninsula School District. He also taught at the elementary, middle, and the high school level. Mr. Winter earned his superintendent’s credential from Washington State University and administrative credentials from Eastern Washington University.

“Mr. Winter is a relational leader with an obvious passion for education. He has a strong background in nurturing the adults in a school system, so they can take care of the students,” stated Board President Rebecca Diehl. “He understands the proud history of South Kitsap and has a strong vision and ability to lead us forward into the future.”

Once finalized, Mr. Winter’s contract will begin on July 1, 2019. He will fill the role left by Superintendent Karst Brandsma who is retiring at the end of the school year. Superintendent Brandsma has been in South Kitsap for three years.
