John Watson - Vice President

A resident of Port Orchard since 1995, John has been an educator and involved in public education-related activities most of his life. These positions ranged from production and management responsibilities in a public broadcasting station, district personnel and budget management, research, and leading technology and computer science programs.

John has an active interest in the programs and success of South Kitsap Schools from which three grandchildren will have graduated. His desire is to supplement programs and activities the school district cannot provide due to lack of funding and the needs of a diverse family population.

Kristen Klein

Kristen KleinI have long been passionate about helping disadvantaged, marginalized and homeless students in our schools and communities and have a firm belief in the words of Nelson Mandela that, ”Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world”.

As the Fund Development Chair and Past President of the Assistance League of Seattle, I proudly led the effort to clothe and educate more underprivileged students than ever, in the League’s 55 year history.

With over 15 years in public education in both the Seattle and South Kitsap school districts, I have continued my personal mission of helping to effect positive change, in order to help the most underserved students in our communities.  My work continues as a member of the Port Orchard Kiwanis, and as a Board Member of the South Kitsap Public Education Foundation.

Amy Miller

Amy MillerAs Communication & Public Information Officer with South Kitsap School District, Amy understands the role quality education plays in the success of our students and the future of our community. She feels that residents have a duty to invest in public schools if they want our community to keep pace with surrounding areas. Amy is an active volunteer with the South Kitsap School Supporters. She serves on the board of the Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis Club of Port Orchard, and South Kitsap Public Education Foundation. She also works with the Chamber Education Committee and Kiwanis Scholarship Committee. Amy and her husband Doug live in Port Orchard and have two daughters attending South Kitsap schools.

Tom Slyter

Tom SlyterAs a young man who grew up in a liberal family, worked commercial fishing and pulp mills, then spent 25 year in the US Air Force following a scholarship to pay for medical school I have developed a  strong belief that people from all walks of life are really quiet similar and passionate. They all love their children and hope their communities will support their dreams. After retiring from the Air Force my wife and I returned to our house in Manchester looking for ways to make a home and a difference. Volunteering with a local Organizing For America group and Kiwanis Club I strive to find common ground and pragmatic ways to keep my community strong and healthy, particularly with respect to our children and schools.
