South Kitsap School District Schools Celebrate National School Lunch Week

Celebrate National School Lunch Week "Peace, Love, & School Lunch" October 10-14, 2022

"Peace, Love & School Lunch"

Campaign Highlights #NSLW22

To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving nearly 30 million children each day across the United States, South Kitsap School District schools will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 10-14, 2022. The fun and creative campaign theme, “Peace, Love & School Lunch,” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.

Research shows children are getting their healthiest meals at school. National School Lunch Week will highlight the nutritious foods available daily at South Kitsap School District’s schools.  Throughout the week students will be introduced to a variety of fun vegetables including tri color cauliflower and confetti salad (a flavorful mix of black beans, corn, and bell peppers).  We will also feature some healthy remakes of classic comfort food including chicken alfredo and Creamy tomato soup.  The district strives to serve as many local foods as possible including Washington grown apples, carrots, and blueberries.

“School lunches offer students fruits and vegetables, whole grains and milk, and meet federal nutrition standards limiting fat, calories and sodium,” said Patricia Barret, Director Food and Nutrition Services. “National School Lunch Week helps us educate parents and students about all the wonderful benefits of our lunch program.”

The federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been fueling students for success for 75 years. Students can enjoy the convenience of a healthy school lunch for just $3.50 for elementary and $3.75 for middle and high school. Some students may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Call 360-443-3664 to learn more.

The “Peace, Love & School Lunch” campaign is made possible by the nonprofit School Nutrition Association and Kellogg’s. Parents and students can follow the fun on social media using the hashtags #NSLW22, #PeaceLoveSchoolLunch and #SchoolLunch.
